Rock N Roll Fantasy Camp was founded in 1997 by music producer and former sports agent David Fishof. It is a four-day immersive experience where amateur musicians, from high-powered lawyers to high school band alumni, are placed into bands led by real rock legends as counselors, rehearse for the week, and perform a culminating concert at a marquee venue in front of their family and friends. More than 6,000 campers have gone through the program. Counselors have included Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of KISS, Joe Perry, Brian Wilson, Vince Neil, Nancy Wilson, Dave Mustaine, Slash, Roger Daltrey, Alice Cooper, and members of Judas Priest, Def Leppard, Deep Purple, and The Scorpions.
The idea came to Fishof in 1989 while he was producing Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band. Joe Walsh and Levon Helm pulled a practical joke on him mid-tour. After it was revealed to be a prank, Fishof realized how much fun these musicians were having together and started thinking about how to give that experience to fans. He mortgaged his house to put the first tour together. The camp was born from the same conviction eight years later.
Our work on Rock N Roll Fantasy Camp was sales, marketing, and all design collateral. Advertising, marketing materials, ticketing pages, sales collateral, and group sales materials. The creative challenge with a brand like this is that the rock legend roster does most of the lifting. A good poster names the right headliners and gets out of the way. Our job was to build the sales and marketing pipeline in a way that respected the caliber of the program and converted the fan who sees a Paul Stanley poster on their feed into a registered camper writing a five-figure check.
We ran sales and marketing for the camp and produced the design collateral. Advertising, marketing materials, ticketing pages, sales collateral, and group sales materials. The specific design problem was converting rock fans into registered campers, which is a higher friction purchase than most entertainment. Multi-thousand-dollar ticket, multi-day commitment, travel planning required. The materials had to do the persuasion work at every stage of that journey.
